Correctional Officer
position at the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This role supports the State Department of Corrections by maintaining safety and security within correction facilities and ensuring the orderly conduct of inmates.
Description Creating a safer Kentucky. The Kentucky Department of Corrections is looking for dedicated professionals to help maintain a safe environment for inmates, staff, and the public.
Responsibilities
Maintain control of the institution and enforce rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Supervise inmate activities in housing units, dining areas, recreation, and work areas.
Attend to inmates' medical, visitation, personal property, and recreational needs.
Inspect and patrol the grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and other security risks.
Complete required reports and daily logs.
Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.

Compensation Base pay: $39,127.68 per year. An approved Locality Premium of $5.23 and shift premiums apply: $2.13 per hour for shift, weekend, and holiday.
Minimum Requirements
High school graduate.
Must be at least twenty years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
For the Department of Juvenile Justice, completion of the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months.
Maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or credentials for the duration of employment.
No prior experience or training is required.
Working Conditions The role is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with convicted felons or in a juvenile detention facility. May be exposed to hazards and dangers associated with operating a motor vehicle while providing transportation services.
