About the Role Become a Patient Support Volunteer. Volunteers brighten a cancer patient’s day by providing non‑medical support while they are undergoing treatment. Responsibilities include offering snacks or beverages, handing out warm blankets, sharing reading materials, talking and listening, wiping down infusion chairs, and helping nurses with restocking.
Time Commitment Minimum 3 hours per week for at least six months.
Other Requirements
Complete a phone screening.
Complete a criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening. Note: FCS is a nicotine- and medical‑marijuana‑free workplace; a positive test will result in ineligibility.
Complete a health screening: TB testing, and immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella (or an approved exemption).
Receive an influenza vaccine annually (August 1 through March 31).
Suitable Candidates Ideal candidates include retirees, cancer survivors, caregivers of cancer patients, and college students interested in oncology, nursing, or medicine.
