At Kiewit, one of our guiding principles on every project and in every office is, “Nobody Gets Hurt” and we’re currently looking for a Certified Industrial Hygienist who will create, support and audit our programs which reinforce our commitment to safety. As a Safety Specialist, you will report to Project Safety Manager. Your primary responsibilities center on the successful implementation and support of the Site Specific Safety Plan in the field. You will assist the Project Safety Manager with the application of the contract, client safety expectations, Kiewit Corporate Safety Manual, Corporate Procedures Manual, District Standards, and all laws governing the work. You will also verify to ensure that work is being executed as planned, problem-solve with operations and craft, assist with corrective measures, and provide resources to correct and maintain solutions. Location

Idaho Falls, ID or Aiken, SC. Responsibilities

Hazard Identification & Assessment

Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices. Conduct surveys and field measurements to detect chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards. Use specialized instruments (e.g., air sampling devices, noise meters, radiation monitors) to measure exposure levels.

Risk Mitigation

Develop and implement strategies to control or eliminate occupational health hazards. Recommend operational changes and protective measures. Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Compliance & Reporting

Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Prepare detailed reports and presentations outlining findings and recommendations. Maintain accurate records of assessments and corrective actions.

Training & Education

Conduct health and safety training sessions for employees. Educate workers on risks and safe work practices. Advise on ergonomic improvements and safe disposal of toxic materials.

Collaboration

Work with safety officers, engineers, and management to improve workplace conditions. Participate in accident investigations and recommend preventive measures.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or a related field. CIH is REQUIRED Experience : 3–5+ years in occupational health or safety roles, depending on seniority. Skills : Strong analytical and observational skills. Proficiency in data analysis and scientific equipment. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
