Quality Technician – Injection Molding (night shift)

Description The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting, measuring, and verifying plastic injection molded products to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, and internal quality standards. This role performs dimensional and visual inspections using gauges and high‑accuracy measurement equipment and supports production by identifying nonconformances, documenting results, and assisting with corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Measurement
Perform in‑process, first‑article, setup, and final inspections on injection‑molded parts
Measure parts using high‑accuracy inspection equipment, including but not limited to:
Digital and dial calipers
Micrometers
Height gauges
Pin, plug, and thread gauges
Optical comparator / vision system
CMM (where applicable)
Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, specifications, and control plans
Verify critical‑to‑quality dimensions and cosmetic requirements
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately record inspection results in inspection reports, SPC charts, and quality systems
Maintain inspection records in compliance with ISO / IATF / customer requirements
Identify, document, and elevate nonconforming material using NCRs or deviation reports
Support lot traceability and labeling requirements
Production & Quality Support
Work closely with Process Technicians, Operators, and Supervisors to resolve quality issues
Assist with root‑cause analysis activities (5‑Why, Fishbone, basic 8D support)
Support containment activities and verification of corrective actions
Perform gauge verification and basic gauge care checks
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
Follow all quality procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements
Support audits (internal, customer, and third‑party) as required
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to scrap reduction and defect prevention
Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (technical or quality certification preferred)
2+ years of experience in a quality or inspection role within plastic injection moulding or manufacturing
Experience measuring molded plastic components with tight tolerances
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency using precision measuring tools and gauges
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
Basic knowledge of SPC and statistical inspection methods
Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or ISO 13485 (as applicable)
Soft Skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong documentation and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team
Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume manufacturing environment
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and inspect parts for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally
Work may require shift flexibility and overtime
Availability to work from 11:00 PM to 07:00 AM
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
Experience with medical, automotive, or high‑precision moulded components
Experience with CMM programming or advanced measurement systems
Quality certifications (CQI, ASQ, internal auditor)
