Recreational Aide – Long-Term Care (Contract) Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Recreational Aide for a Long-Term Care / Skilled Nursing setting. This role focuses on enhancing residents’ quality of life through structured recreational and therapeutic activities while supporting interdisciplinary care teams.
Job Type: Contract. Duration: 13 weeks. Schedule: Full-time, rotating/any shift. Number of Openings: 1. Holiday Coverage: Required. EMR: Cerner. Position Urgency: Normal.
Minimum 2 years of Recreational Aide experience (required – no exceptions)
CNA certification REQUIRED
Active BLS certification required
Experience with MDS is required
Experience in Long-Term Care or Skilled Nursing Facility settings
Ability to work all shifts as needed
Key Responsibilities
Independently plan, organize, and implement recreational activities tailored to residents’ abilities and limitations
Assess and reassess residents’ interests, needs, and concerns through observation, discussion, and documentation
Provide one‑on‑one engagement with residents as needed
Support community reintegration by accompanying residents on outings (e.g., shopping, dining, theater, picnics, and bus/van rides)
Coordinate activity schedules to avoid conflicts with other departments
Maintain and update activity calendars
Collaborate with dietary services for special meals and off‑site dining coordination
Prepare, set up, clean, and store activity equipment and supplies
Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment
Assist with inventory management and report supply needs
Support CNAs or licensed staff with basic patient‑care tasks (toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming)
Operate vehicles for resident transportation during outings
Attend interdisciplinary meetings and participate in assigned groups
Perform additional related duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of recreational therapy principles and treatment plans
Knowledge of human growth and development
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with healthcare policies, procedures, and safety standards
Supervision Works under the supervision of a Recreational Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Activities Coordinator, or Registered Nurse (Director of Nursing or above).
