Overview The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager. It is responsible for the clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a wide range of health care services while supporting quality and safe care. The Medical Assistant may float to other practices as needed to support operational needs or to other practices within the region providing support as needed.
What You Will Do
Maintain excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group, including updating, verifying, and maintaining patient records by properly interviewing the patient and confirming purpose of visit; preparing patients for examination by obtaining vital signs; preparing and sanitizing exam rooms before and after appointments; administering medications and vaccines under physician supervision; assisting with prescription refill requests; maintaining medical inventory; keeping equipment in operating order; and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, scope of practice, HIPAA, and OSHA standards.
Complete all required competencies and continuing education to maintain skill level for safe patient care.
Act as a liaison between physician and patient, providing support, comfort, and chaperoning during examinations when needed; demonstrate excellent customer service, timely patient response, and effective management of provider schedules.
Assist patients with appointments, referrals, and necessary information; provide patient education per protocol and direct provider instruction; and include directions in the after-visit summary within the electronic medical record.
Exhibit knowledge of lab procedures including specimen collection, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and use of ABN’s when applicable; properly process, package, and send specimens to the correct laboratory.
Follow insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations; maintain knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding, obtain prior authorizations as needed; and schedule tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
Support productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources so that productivity targets are met and contribute to meeting quality measures for the organization.
