Lab Technician 1 - Chemistry
Zoetis is looking for a Lab Technician 1 in Chemistry to support the Global Diagnostics division. The role involves performing routine laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions, working closely with veterinarians and other lab staff to maintain high quality and accuracy.
Job Duties
Prepare biological specimens for testing across hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, and coagulation departments
Operate high-throughput automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic equipment to test various sample types (whole blood, serum, urine, feces)
Set up and execute laboratory tests, review results, and release findings in accordance with ZRL Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on analyzers (daily, weekly, monthly, as needed)
Perform basic analyzer troubleshooting on one major department analyzer
Review and accept daily Quality Control reports and weekly Levey‑Jennings charts
Handle, store, and dispose of biological specimens and medical/biohazardous waste per SOPs and regulatory guidelines
Maintain clean and organized laboratory workspace and properly document logs (maintenance, environmental, cleaning, medical records, courier logs, manifests)
Prepare and ship biological specimens to offsite testing facilities per DOT standards
Receive, store, and log laboratory and office supplies
Operate and maintain secondary equipment (centrifuges, pipettes, heating blocks, slide stainers)
Understand and follow SOPs and training modules set by Zoetis Reference Laboratories
Education / Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
1–2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting and basic laboratory testing or operations
Proficient knowledge in one of the following preferred: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Endocrinology, Parasitology, Cytology
Technical Skills Required
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software
Experience with IT, LIS (laboratory information systems), and general comfort with computer systems and equipment interfaces
Team‑oriented with excellent collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Robust organizational and time management abilities
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
Fluency in English
Physical Position Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, crouch
Ability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods
