Armed Security Officer ($27.50/hr, Full Time) - AK Railroad - Fairbanks, AK
Job Description
The Armed Security Officer provides services for a variety of large and small business clients where health, safety, and security is our #1 priority. This is a public environment at the Alaska Railroad and surrounding areas with the corresponding levels of traffic (employees, visitors, customers, etc.).
Responsibilities
Personally monitor assigned areas visually, electronically, or audibly, including roving inside facilities, roving in a vehicle, or other locations deemed appropriate.
Patrol a large area by driving and by foot.
Ensure own actions and those of others observe maximum safety and compliance.
Use restraints (handcuffs or other mechanical restraints) as needed.
Verbally de‑escalate situations to ensure safety of employees, customers, and clients.
Examine doors, windows, and other areas of the trains and facilities to confirm they are secure.
Report and record data such as property damage and unusual occurrences in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Warn violators of rule infractions and may apprehend or expel violators.
Notify on‑site individuals of visitors wishing to see them.
Assist in responding to emergencies or disasters (fire safety, active shooter protocol, etc.) to preserve life and property.
Perform routine input or monitoring of safety and life‑support computer programs.
Issue and record ID badges.
Check heating, lighting, sprinkling, security, ventilation, fire, and other systems to ensure they are operational.
Perform duties combined with other position duties as needed.
Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not met.
Complete other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
At least three (3) years of security, law enforcement, or military experience.
A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years, to be eligible under NMS vehicle insurance policy.
Ability to obtain and pay the Alaska Guard License fee of $97.00 prior to beginning work.
Ability to qualify for and obtain an Alaska Armed Guard License.
Cooperate and work as part of a team with employees, customers, and clients.
Make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
Remain on feet for 8‑12 hours per shift during the scheduled rotation.
English speaking, understanding, reading, and writing ability required.
Meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Weather: Indoors and outdoors, frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to loud.
Description of environment: The environment will vary based on the facility assigned.
Physical requirements: Employee must lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., and frequently stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, carry weight/lift.
