1) Must have a valid driver’s license. 2) Must be eligible to possess and lawfully use a firearm; must successfully qualify with a handgun and other department weapons according to existing standards. 3) Must be P.O.S.T. licensed or eligible for licensing by the Minnesota P.O.S.T. board at the time of hire.

Applicants must submit a resume, P.O.S.T. license or eligibility letter, or a statement of when eligibility can be expected. Desired Experience

POST eligible or soon to be eligible for a Minnesota P.O.S.T. license. Successful completion of a degree program in law enforcement or a related field. Eligibility to possess and lawfully use a firearm under local, state, and federal law. Selection Process

Applicants will be evaluated based on submitted materials. Top candidates will be invited for an interview. All finalists must pass background investigation, psychological exam, medical exam, drug test, and an interview. Hours & Days

Deputy Sheriff‑Patrol Officers work five days on, three days off. All shifts are 9 hour days. Day shift: 6:30 AM–3:30 PM Afternoon shift: 2:30 PM–11:30 PM Night shift: 10:30 PM–7:30 AM Anticipated Hiring Range

2025 Salary Range: \$81,931.20 (\$39.39/hour) – \$110,510.40 (\$53.13/hour) E‑Verify Participation

Washington County participates in the federal E‑Verify program. Employers must provide SSA and DHS with information from each new employee’s Form I‑9 to confirm work authorization. Do not use E‑Verify to pre‑screen applicants or limit choice of documents for Form I‑9. Core Responsibilities

Patrol roads, waterways, parks, trails, and communities to protect people and property and enforce statutes. Respond to calls for service, determine law violations, enforce laws, mediate disputes, and provide first aid. Prepare detailed written and electronic reports of incidents and activities. Conduct investigations: collect evidence, dust for prints, interview witnesses, take photographs, and preserve evidence. Issue citations, make arrests, transport prisoners, and process detainees. Assist in court matters, provide testimony, and coordinate with attorneys. Maintain equipment and vehicles, ensuring proper use and upkeep. Engage in community outreach, crime prevention programs, and public education. Perform other duties as assigned.
