Responsible to coordinate daily activities of the nursing unit, to provide management and oversight to resident health needs and leadership with coaching to staff. Closely works with physicians, health care providers and other team members to provide optimal resident outcomes. Assists residents and families with transition of admission and discharge process. Is responsible for completion of and adherence of regulatory compliance requirements for nursing unit. Is responsible to assure staffing needs are covered and actively seeks to provide exceptional nursing care and service.

Graduate of an approved RN program

Current North Dakota Licensure & BLS certification required

Must possess strong leadership, communication and organizational skills

Supervisory experience preferred

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

JOB RESPONSIBILIES:

Organizes and administers day-to-day nursing department activities.

Responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate quality of nursing care.

Oversees resident health needs, utilizing good assessment, critical thinking and insightful observation skills; executes follow-through and coordination of nursing, physician and other professional services as needed.

Assists with resident admission process and orientation to facility protocols.

Provides direct nursing support to department to include performing admission and post hospital assessments, assist with identifying changes in resident acuity, administering treatments, medication dispensing, documentation and nursing consultation as required.

Initiates service level change process including the provider, resident, family and support services to facilitate transfer.

Provides staff direction to prepare resident charts for clinic appointments and lab draws; performs clinic nurse function if required.

Oversees staffing needs and assures adequate staffing and shift coverage is maintained.

May require performance of various nursing duties as ordered by physician to include observation of physician orders, distribution of medications and treatments.

Responsible for nursing staff performance appraisals, hiring, orientation, training and corrective action process.

Responsible to schedule and maintain nursing department staffing schedule, to audit worked hours for accuracy.

Monitors resident charts and documentation for relevance and accuracy; provides education and coaching when need is indicated.

Assists family with processing and completion of insurance claims.

Coordinates medication services with multiple pharmaceutical vendors including VA and mail order medications to provide effective and safe services.

Assists with budgetary process for nursing unit and is responsible to operate within budgetary guidelines.

Responsible to participate in nursing department’s Continuous Quality Improvement process and submit QA reports as scheduled.

All other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Administrative office type position which includes close involvement with nursing unit to assure resident health and acuity needs are met. Involves resident interactions requiring strong assessment skills and sound nursing judgment. Includes possible exposure to communicable diseases, exposure to body fluids and sharps. Could require working with hazardous materials and other conditions common to a health care environment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to pass a work tolerance screen, which includes full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye – hand coordination. Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to work in a fast paced and fluid environment. Requires computer proficiency and utilization of facility computer software programs; proficiency in use of word, excel, Microsoft publisher, power point, and outlook. Could require working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
