Wafer Fab Technician – Coherent Corp.
Base pay range: $20.00/hr – $27.00/hr
Job Description The world’s communications infrastructure depends on semiconductor lasers, especially those based on Indium Phosphide (InP) technology. Coherent’s portfolio includes a range of InP components such as Fabry‑Pérot lasers, directly modulated lasers (DMLs), tunable lasers, high‑speed photodiodes, and electro‑absorption modulated lasers (EMLs). With over one hundred million lasers deployed worldwide, our technology platform is proven, reliable, and cost‑effective.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Process InP semiconductor wafers in a cleanroom and ESD‑safe environment.
Obtain certifications in multiple process areas, including photolithography, wet etch, dry etch, thin‑film deposition, metallization/plating, lapping/polishing, and characterization tools (CDSEM, AFM, profilometer, stressometer).
Handle chemicals and hazardous materials following safety protocols.
Follow process flow using travelers and MES (e.g., CAMSTAR); enter wafer characterization data and WIP location information.
Collaborate with engineering for process training and execution of non‑standard work instructions; record and verify discrepancies, making modifications and escalating issues when needed.
Stand for the duration of the shift and participate in Emergency Response Team (ERT) training.
Provide hands‑on process training to coworkers.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience in high‑tech manufacturing (preferred). Wafer handling experience is a plus.
Skills
Attention to detail and meticulous data entry.
Proficient with small‑part handling and semi‑automated/automated processing tools.
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Willingness to work overtime and participate in ERT activities.
Strong verbal and written English skills.
Integrity, self‑motivation, and ability to work independently and in fast‑paced teams.
Knowledge of machining, construction, and basic electrical concepts.
Working Conditions
12‑hour shift; AM schedule (Thursday – Saturday, alternate Wednesdays 5 AM‑5 PM).
Fast‑paced environment with multiple concurrent projects.
On‑site work in a cleanroom with strict cleanliness rules.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for the duration of the shift.
Safety Requirements
All employees must follow site EHS procedures and Coherent’s Corporate EHS standards.
Quality and Environmental Responsibilities
Execute and maintain ISO 9000/9001, ISO 14001, and other relevant quality management system standards.
