APP Fellows rotate throughout every ICU environment within UVA Medical Center, revisiting most rotations more than once. Fellows also rotate with experts in specialty services such as thoracic and abdominal transplant, infectious disease, procedural experiences, and elective rotations to explore new areas of medicine or to revisit a previous experience. Fellows are required to take a patient load under the guidance and supervision of a designated preceptor, increasing their patient load and level of responsibility throughout the program as competency and overall clinical development determine their role.
Full‑time Clinical Schedule: Fellows work a full clinical schedule aligned with designated preceptors in each rotation, plus a dedicated didactic day every Friday.
Weekly Hours: Fellows average 40–60 hours per week, including preparation, reading, and Professional Development Curriculum requirements.
Critical Care Fellows may occasionally work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of their clinical requirements.

Must have: Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
Background checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
Eligibility and Minimum Requirements
Education: Master’s Degree as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant).
Experience: Less than 1 year in the desired specialty.
Licensure: Virginia Board of Medicine or Virginia Board of Nursing, plus delegated credentialing; BLS required, ACLS required for Critical Care.
Physical demands: Standing, traveling, lifting 20–50 lbs; exposure to chemicals, blood, and infectious disease.
