Retail Safety Specialist I

Position Summary The purpose of this position is to support the Mid‑Atlantic region for Food Lion by driving the mission of reducing and mitigating injury, illness and regulatory risks in supermarkets. The Safety Specialist provides subject matter expertise in health and safety risks and is responsible for executing and maintaining safety systems and improvements that positively impact and improve loss exposures.
Responsibilities
Direct aspects of safety programs, including leading long‑term safety and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Conduct ongoing problem‑solving based on objective assessment and use collaborative methods to achieve consensus; advise leadership and business partners on safety risks and controls.
Integrate injury prevention and compliance into company strategy so associates know their roles and responsibilities.
Partner with business areas to identify best equipment, processes, workflow, work environment and facility decisions that impact associate and customer safety.
Create and utilize performance metrics to measure effectiveness of operating systems and environmental health and safety programs.
Maintain effective communication within the organization to align with priorities and desired results.
Ensure associates are adequately prepared and trained to safely perform their jobs; ensure operating systems are in place.
Provide and facilitate training courses to business partners and store teams.
Conduct safety assessments in stores and coach associates through corrective actions.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
3–5 years of safety or operations experience, preferably in retail.
Self‑starter with ability to propose ideas and solutions.
