Role Overview

The Client’s Production Engineering Battery team is seeking a highly experienced Functional Safety Specialist to support a critical safety compliance and validation function. This role focuses on auditing, validating, and improving Safety Control Systems (SCS) to ensure compliance with global functional safety standards. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in functional safety engineering, strong project leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate across regions, vendors, and cross‑functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed area‑level project plans, schedules, and deliverables Audit Safety Control Systems (SCS) for compliance with ISO 13849-1 and ANSI B11 Identify, document, and track SCS non‑conformities Design and verify countermeasures to achieve target control categories and performance levels Audit SCS design modifications to ensure alignment with intended safety design Manage third‑party consultant groups using milestones, concerns, and KPIs Lead cross‑functional communication to drive issue resolution Provide regular written and verbal project status updates to leadership Support and mentor the Control Reliability team Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and implementation as needed

Required Qualifications (Must‑Haves)

Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent) 5+ years of functional safety engineering experience in industrial or automation environments Technical Associate’s Degree or higher in a related discipline In‑depth knowledge of ISO 13849-1, ANSI B11, and related safety standards Safety PLC programming experience, including reading, interpreting, modifying, and configuring logic Experience with PLC/Safety PLC communication protocols and system integration Demonstrated technical problem‑solving and countermeasure implementation skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint Ability to support weekends, off‑shifts, holidays, and scheduled shutdowns (July & December) Willingness to travel up to 30% (domestic and international) Ability to navigate large industrial facilities and lift up to 25 lbs safely

Preferred Qualifications (Nice‑to‑Haves)

Experience with risk assessment tools Knowledge of FMEA / FMEDA methodologies Proficiency with one or more Safety PLC platforms – Omron Sysmac (Safety) or Toyopuc PCWin Safe
