Responsibilities

Perform technical and administrative duties of an Occupational Health Technician.

Support the industrial hygiene program.

Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring surveys at various commands and activities to assess work practices and environmental conditions for hazards to the safety and health of workers, and to detect violations of published health hazards.

Perform sampling of potential health hazardous exposures to chemical, physical, and biological stressors in a variety of workplaces.

Review files for previously collected data, plan/manage sample collection in accordance with assigned monitoring programs, and coordinate monitoring efforts with serviced command personnel.

Enter and maintain current DOEHRS records on all assigned personal sampling equipment.

Record data, prepare and send samples to the appropriate laboratory for analysis.

Participate in the pre‑appointment physical examination.

Wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites; must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Requirements

Must be a US Citizen.

Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.

This is a bargaining unit position.

Must be able to successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.

Must be able to wear required PPE continuously.

Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Education or experience combination may satisfy specialization requirement.

Qualifications

At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Experience and practical knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices applicable to the design and performance of industrial hygiene surveys and exposure monitoring.

Experience utilizing Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS‑IH).

Experience performing sampling of potential health hazardous exposures to chemical, physical, and biological stressors in a variety of workplaces.

Education in lieu of specialized experience: One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS‑7.
