Job Description Summary Position Responsibilities

Prepare exam room & ultrasound equipment, follow infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.

Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information and verify physician's orders prior to examination.

Ensure the sonography examination order is complete, relevant, and meets standards of medical necessity.

Inspect images for quality and verify correct patient name, date, and medical record number before interpretation.

Assist with training of new technologists, technical assistants, and physician residents.

Demonstrate competency, observe safety guidelines, and perform quality control procedures on ultrasound equipment.

Communicate with patients appropriately based on their ability to understand.

Apply independent judgment to capture accurate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions.

Perform advanced sonography services or other tasks (e.g., PICC lines, PVRs, ABIs, renal artery, interventional procedures) as delegated by the supervising physician.

Adjust to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques.

Report all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist / supervisor and clinical engineering immediately.

Maintain and stock supplies necessary for ultrasonic examinations.

Provide a preliminary report (electronically or manually) and document any exam delays in EPIC 'Tech Notes' with date/time & technologist's initials.

Demonstrate knowledge of EPIC and SYNAPSE systems.

Complete exam data entry for all studies daily and confirm images were sent to PACS.

Check business e‑mail daily and attend monthly department staff meetings.

Qualifications

License/Registration/Certification

American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certified.

BLS/CPR certification required.

Education

Graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent.

Experience

At least 4 years of clinical experience required.

ARDMS ABD or OB/GYN required; RVT preferred.
