Employment Summary Under the general direction of the Director of Laboratory Services, and in conjunction with the Technical (Pathologist) Director and Laboratory Medical Director/Chief of Pathology, the Testing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Point of Care Testing (POCT) conducted under the Laboratory's CLIA licenses.
Compensation $79,600.00 - $113,800.00
Responsibilities
Coordinate the Point of Care testing program.
Review all test results and QC data per CAP and other regulatory agencies.
Maintain a procedure manual compliant with CLIA and CAP requirements and communicate updates.
Oversee instrument maintenance, logging, troubleshooting, and vendor coordination.
Ensure consistent high‑quality test results.
Collaborate with Nursing Education to assure staff competency.
Develop and share comprehensive QC, QA, and proficiency testing plans.
Establish and maintain an inventory control system.
Prepare and submit purchase orders for approval.
Create formal procedures for inventory assessment and staff participation.
Promote efficient use of reagents and supplies.
Consult on non‑Laboratory inventory needs.
Audit non‑Laboratory areas for expired products.
Train and ensure competency of staff.
Coordinate orientation and “train‑the‑trainer” programs for new employees.
Deliver training for new procedures, instruments, or methods.
Maintain documentation of competency plans and technical competence of all PPO staff.
Assist in evaluation, selection, and documentation of new instruments, methods and procedures.
Participate in the ad hoc Point‑of‑Care committee.
Research proposed methodologies and instruments for clinical acceptability.
Implement new instrumentation per CLSI guidelines.
Solicit feedback from physicians and caregivers.
Ensure user eligibility and compliance.
Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date user databases.
Maintain CLIA and accreditation documentation.
Coordinate with Human Resources for required documentation.
Promote a culture of safety.
Model and enforce safety policies and regulations.
Identify patient‑safety improvements and implement changes.
Act as liaison between Laboratory Services and other departments.
Coordinate investigations and resolution of POCT issues.
Present laboratory topics to nursing staff and communicate policy changes.
Embrace technology.
Utilize POCT databases for data management.
Participate in continuous learning of new technologies and procedures.
Leverage tool sets such as Meditech and Lotus Notes.
Other responsibilities.
Maintain technical and leadership knowledge through workshops.
Collaborate with supervisors and pathologists toward departmental goals.
Report deviations with corrective action via Incident Reporting Database.
Adapt to tasks of equal or higher skill level as required.
Participate in special projects and additional tasks as assigned.
Assist Information Systems in LIS codes and interfaces.
Qualifications
Education (Preferred)
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science.
Any bachelor’s in chemical or biological science with CLIA qualification and one-year clinical laboratory internship or experience.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of applicable clinical laboratory experience, with at least three (3) years in Chemistry and/or Hematology.
Certifications
MT or MLS (ASCP) or equivalent required.
Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist certification required at hire.
Knowledge & Abilities
Expertise in laboratory regulatory and accreditation standards, QC, QA.
Organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to teach and train staff on POCT applications.
Salary and Schedule Salaried position, primarily Monday to Friday, dayshift.
