Job Summary The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The operator controls crane functions by depressing buttons and foot pedals as well as manipulating levers. The operator unloads crane accessories from trailers or support vehicles. He/she receives direction from riggers and/or site supervision via verbal or hand signals to determine required load movement. The operator must have a CDL Class B license and will perform pre‑and post‑trip inspections as well as daily and monthly equipment inspections. The operator follows safety procedures and maintains logs of vehicle repair status and working hours (FMCSA). The operator typically works under direct supervision and is expected to work long hours, often with frequent sitting, standing, moving, and climbing. Exposure to extreme year‑round outdoor environmental conditions and working weekends and holidays is possible.

Responsibilities

Operate various types of cranes: All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, and Boom Trucks.

Operate diesel‑powered hydraulic truck cranes to lift material, objects, or personnel into place.

Drive crane to work site and properly set up per manufacturer’s operator manual and company rules regarding cribbing, matting, and safety.

Direct activities of oilers, truck drivers, or helpers in setting up and knocking down the equipment; placing cribbing blocks and/or pads, moving levers and foot pedals to rotate superstructure, raise and lower boom, and lower cables.

Operate crane according to signals from oiler or helper and may bolt or pin boom sections together to modify boom length.

Perform routine maintenance, carry tools for running repairs, and wear PPE safety equipment.

Properly barricade counterweight tail‑swing radius and take complete charge of all safety pertaining to set‑up and knockdown and operation of the crane.

Understand and properly fill out job tickets for customer acceptance of responsibility for job site and billing.

Drive truck to worksites and unload equipment.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.

Ability to read and speak English.

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

Must pass a drug test, background check, and fitness‑for‑duty test.

Current NCCCO or equivalent crane operator certification.

Valid CDL Class B license.

Desired Qualifications

Proficient oral and written communication skills, technical skills, and functional skills.

CDL Class A license.

Work Environment The employee may be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment. They could be exposed to extreme temperatures, fumes, or airborne particles. Noise level is moderate. The job may involve working on weekends and holidays.
