Responsibilities

Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex laboratory tests authorized by California, Business & Professions Code Sections 1206.5 (a)(b)(c), 1261, 1210, 1269, 1260.3, 17 CFR 1031 (b) (1‑5), 17 CFR 1032.5, and possess a degree of skill commensurate with education, training or experience.

Adhere to the laboratory’s procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.

Follow the laboratory’s established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.

Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct the issue or immediately notify the supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.

Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline introduced into the laboratory.

Perform and document routine maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly) on instruments and equipment as appropriate.

Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.

Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.

Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled identically to patient samples and report results to the appropriate agencies; collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited until reporting is completed.

Possibly perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.

Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.

Adhere to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.

May be assigned or serve as General Supervisor responsible for the section or department during their shift.

May have responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.

Perform other tasks or responsibilities assigned by the department manager or director.

Qualifications

Requires two years of clinical laboratory work experience covering all areas of a clinical laboratory.

Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032 (Clinical Laboratory Scientist).

Requires current and valid California State License.

Pay Transparency

— Centinela Hospital Medical Center offers competitive compensation; a reasonable estimate for this role is $50.00 to $50.00. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of hiring, considering skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
