Equipment Operator A – Wernersville State Hospital The Department of Human Services, Wernersville State Hospital, is seeking an Equipment Operator A to support facility operations by providing transportation services. This position offers an opportunity to use specialized skills to ensure safe and efficient functioning of our State Mental Health Hospital.

Responsibilities

Provide on‑grounds transportation for consumers and other duties as assigned.

Operate a variety of equipment and vehicles to transport supplies, maintain ground safety and appearance, and perform snow and ice removal.

Complete general maintenance of equipment and vehicles, including interior and exterior cleaning, waxing, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and assistance with major repairs.

Perform safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to departure to maintain compliance with DOT regulations.

Perform manual work with powered and non‑powered tools, loading and unloading trucks, cleaning streets and catch basins, and cutting and trimming grass and brush.

Work Schedule

Full‑time employment.

Work hours 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, every 3rd or 4th weekend, 30‑minute lunch.

Telework not available.

Overtime may be required and subject to emergency call‑in.

Compensation Start salary may be non‑negotiable.

Qualifications

Six months experience operating and maintaining large vans, buses, and single‑chassis trucks with GVW ≥10,001 lbs or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Will obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the probationary period.

Must meet PA residency requirement.

Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Conditional offer requires medical examination.
