Purpose The purpose of a Thermoforming Automation Maintenance Apprentice (or intern) is to inspect and repair automation equipment. The expectations and requirements for both apprentice and intern are effectively the same – the only difference is the current education level achieved/enrolled in for the individual.
Responsibilities
Inspect and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems on thermoforming automation equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance procedures as specified in the QSI system.
Complete work assigned by Group Leader or Assistant Group Leader.
Communicate activities with Group Leader and other department members.
Maintain neat and orderly appearance of the shop and automation equipment.
Obtain parts in emergency cases.
Assist in other departments as requested.
Seek training to stay current with job requirements.
Assume control of the machine when a situation arises which has potential for personal injury or rapid deterioration of the machine.
Qualifications Education
High school diploma / GED equivalent.
Willingness to complete a four‑year maintenance mechanic apprenticeship program.
Practical
Relevant past work experience.
Able to accept responsibility for work performed.
Able to work independently and with others.
Able to work independently in a potentially isolated area of the building.
Knowledge of mechanical systems.
Basic troubleshooting skills.
Must be self‑motivated and self‑disciplined, abiding by all Amcor codes of ethics, safety policies and rules.
Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and/or paging system.
Ability to safely use a forklift independently and maintain all applicable training requirements.
Physical Expectations
Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns.
Stereo optical vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater; ability to read 10–12‑point font at 12–18 inches.
Can see and identify colors. (Complete an “Ishiharar” color vision test)
Able to stand/walk for 11 hours of a 12-hour shift.
Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.
Ability to work at heights (with or without fall protection).
Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.
Ability to lift 35 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day.
Ability to push/pull loads of approximately 45 pounds 10 times per day/shift.
Can work in extremes of heat/cold.
Can work overhead or in awkward positions frequently.
Ability to occasionally climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance.
