Hubbard has been leading Florida’s heavy civil construction since 1920, working on highways, bridges, site development, and other infrastructure projects across the state.

Key Duties

Safely operates roller to compress/compact dirt, aggregate, or blacktop to achieve the specified grading and smooth surface.

Reads grade stakes and works with grade checker, laser, or GPS to maintain grade.

Determines speed and direction of roller based on knowledge of compressible material to achieve a smooth grade and/or surface.

Works closely with other crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.

Performs daily inspection and maintenance and ensures that roller is in safe, proper working order including fluid checks and proper lubrication. Reports to shop when roller needs maintenance and repair.

Keeps roller clean and prepares equipment for transport on flatbed when needed.

Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and safety at job‑site.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

Three (3) to five (5) years or more of industry‑related experience as a Roller Operator, with emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.

Physical Demands

Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50–90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.

Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.

The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., moving equipment, backing alarms, or other alarms, instructions/directions from supervisor and/or spotter).

Work Environment

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

Workers may be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, and dust associated with construction projects.

Employees regularly work near heavy equipment and moving machinery.

Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready‑mixed concrete.
