Job Summary The Medical Assistant/CMA or CNA assists providers in care, medical record documentation, and treatment so patients can receive quality care. Obtain and process doctors orders. Provide good customer service on the phone, or with patients, doctors and other medical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the phone.
Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and recording medical history and confirming purpose of visit.
Prepares patients for health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room; provides examination gowns or shorts; assists them to position themselves, arranges exam room, instruments, supplies and equipment.
Ensures all related reports, labs and imaging are available in patient’s records prior to visit.
Supports patient care by assisting providers during exam; draws up medications for injections; completes records by recording examination, treatment and test results. Relays treatment plan to checkout receptionist.
Keeps exam room and injection station supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipt.
Ensures that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
Provides age-appropriate care.
Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents.
Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
Scanning orders and lab results into electronic medical system, print and fax lab reports to ordering doctor.
Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.
Orients and mentors new staff members.
Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
Other duties as assigned by office manager as necessary.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Responsibilities
Assists in the care of assigned patients as directed by appropriate nursing staff.
Obtains admission, vital signs, discharge vital signs and verifies patient signatures.
Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights.
Performs duties in accordance with job requirements.
Understands protocol for responding to emergency situations.
Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and education requirements as appropriate.
Communicates all pertinent information to the assigned nurse in a timely and effective manner.
Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level are in question.
Maintains standards to provide safe, effective care.
Performs efficiently when putting charts together, stocking/cleaning rooms, stocking linens, recording temperatures on fridge/blanket warmer and assisting with patient care.
Assists LPN or RN in discharging of patients, verifying stable gate, providing written discharge instructions, and ensuring patient is not driving self home.
Works as part of the team in delivering patient care.
Is flexible and willing to assist with other duties on the unit.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school program or higher.
Certificate of training for Nurse’s Aide.
Current BLS certification.
Valid driver’s license.
CMA course preferred, not required.
Preferable but not mandatory: 6 months of PACU/Medical Surgical experience.
Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English; good communication with hospital staff, patients, and families.
Bilingual is a plus.
Must understand medical terminology.
General math skills.
Can consistently make sound judgments; organized, multitasker, critical thinker.
Attention to detail and ability to concentrate for long periods.
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills; flexible.
Can work well under pressure and handle multiple competing deadlines.
Basic computer knowledge; familiarity with CPSI and patient scheduling.
Ability to handle and defuse conflict with patients, families, and staff.
