Job Description & Duties
Under the general supervision of the Supervising Dentist, CF, and the clinical direction of the Dentist, CF, the Dental Hygienist, CF, provides preventative dental treatment to incarcerated patients with oral health problems.
The Dental Hygienist provides education to incarcerated patients regarding good oral hygiene and promotes good dental health.
The Dental Hygienist counsels incarcerated patients concerning good nutrition and its impact on oral health.
The Dental Hygienist follows security procedures at all times, including those concerning the security of dental instruments.
The Dental Hygienist, CF, is knowledgeable with and follows the Incarcerated Dental Services Program, Policies and Procedures.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces the base salary of eligible employees by 3 % and provides 5 leave credits monthly through June 2027.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Dental Hygienist as determined by the Committee on Dental Auxiliaries (COMDA) of the Dental Board of California.
Applicants who are in the process of securing approval of their qualifications by COMDA will be admitted to the examination, but they must possess all legal requirements as determined by COMDA before they are eligible for appointment.
Before applying for the position, candidates must take and pass the CalCareers examination for eligibility.
