RN Student Nurse Extern PRN – Medical Care Unit

Job Summary And Responsibilities The Nurse Extern PRN will work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and assist the nursing staff in providing patient care. Key responsibilities include:
Work closely with the clinical team to create and implement care plans, performing direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision
Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care
Assist with patient mobility: turning, positioning, ambulating and transferring to/from units or departments
Translate complex medical terminology to ensure patients/families understand conditions, treatments, medications, side effects and follow‑up measures
Educate patients/families on healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention and lifestyle changes at discharge and for future self‑management
Qualifications
Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing school; ability to perform higher‑level procedures once competency achieved
One year of completed nursing school is preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Ability to create and implement a personal career development plan, reviewed regularly by supervisor or preceptor
