Additional Information About The Role

Day Shift Hours: 4 – 10 hours per week (7am-5:30pm) with rotating days off.

Saturday Rotation (approximately once a month – 8 hr shift 0730–1600 with additional day off during the week).

Closed on Sundays and all major holidays.

No after‑hours call required.

BJH CDL South and BJH CDL CAM.

Performs complex transthoracic echocardiography exams at various locations (inpatient and outpatient) throughout the academic campus.

We utilize primarily GE equipment with newer GE E95 machines, PICOM Imaging/Reporting system, EPIC.

The Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory at Barnes‑Jewish Hospital partners with Washington University School of Medicine to provide state‑of‑the‑art multi‑modality echocardiographic imaging.

Performs ASE‑guided, non‑invasive cardiovascular testing in an IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) accredited lab to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease or injury, including advanced pathologies and anatomies (3‑D echocardiography, transplanted heart and lungs, assist device placement and management, transcatheter valvular repair/replacement, congenital abnormalities and malformations, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, percutaneous placement of closure devices for patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects, and research protocols).

Performs testing in routine, non‑routine, urgent and emergent patient care situations.

Testing modalities include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress transthoracic echocardiography.

Requirements

RDCS Registry (required).

Associate's Degree or trade school equivalency.

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).

Experience

Responsibilities

Performs complex echocardiography exams at various locations throughout the academic campus.

Evaluates all aspects of cardiovascular patient clinical assessment for cardiac conditions and recognizes abnormalities.

Reviews and correlates relevant patient history, including corrective procedures, surgeries, etc., and applies independent clinical judgement during the exam to ensure appropriate anatomical, pathophysiology, and clinical conditions are captured in examination images.

Acquires advanced modalities as trained to include 3‑D, right‑heart strain, TAPSE, PISA, transcatheter pre/post valvular repair/replacement, HOCM etc.

Communicates with the healthcare team for collaboration of care; reviews examination images, synthesizes results, and prepares preliminary findings to support the interpreting physician echocardiographer by contributing technical impressions and professional knowledge to facilitate the completion of the final diagnostic report for use in clinical care.
