Budget & Management Graduate Assistant – Temporary
Position posted by Wake County. Temporary position from May 11 – August 7, with possible part‑time work up to 15 hr/week before and after the dates.
Responsibilities Assist with Board work sessions, public hearings, year‑end close‑out, budget upload to the financial system, contract review, business planning and financial forecasting. Develop analytical, collaborative and problem‑solving skills; conduct process improvement reviews; prepare financial, personnel, and performance reporting, etc.
All interns are invited to attend site tours to learn about diverse County operations, including the animal shelter, fire training center, landfill, EMS, crime‑scene investigation, Register of Deeds, parks, etc.
Prior Interns have
Facilitated special projects
Prepared management and discussion analysis for the ACFR
Conducted analysis to optimize the financial chart of accounts
Created tools to streamline budget development and management
Rewrote the department budget development guidance (Budget Manual)
Researched best practices in performance management, GFOA budget documents, etc.
About Our Team & County Wake County employs about 5,000 people and serves a population of roughly 1.2 million in the rapidly growing Raleigh region. The 18‑member Budget and Management Services department supports the Board of Commissioners and the County Manager in managing the county’s $2.4 billion budget.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related program.
Equivalent education and experience are accepted.
