Job Summary
Perform intermediate technical work establishing child support orders, providing ongoing case management of child support enforcement program cases, scheduling court hearings, and related duties as assigned. Responsibilities include answering phone calls, directing inquiries, initiating paternity actions, interviewing custodial and non‑custodial parents, reviewing data for legal action, and working cooperatively with courts, law enforcement agencies, and other child support related agencies.
Responsibilities
Answer phone calls and direct inquiries to appropriate staff.
Initiate paternity actions and establish child support orders.
Provide ongoing case management of child support enforcement program cases under Title IV‑D of the Federal Social Security Act.
Interview custodial and non‑custodial parents to gather facts for support payments and paternity establishment.
Review and comply with data for appropriate legal action recommendations.
Collaborate with courts, law enforcement agencies, FCC, HHS, and other agencies associated with child support and paternity.
Attend hearings, negotiate stipulations, and provide testimony in court as needed.
Schedule court hearings, prepare pleadings, and file with COC upon agency attorney review and approval.
Maintain accurate case information using the KIDS information data system, create legal documents, and document case activities.
Perform genetic testing in paternity cases.
Handle Federal Taxpayer Information (FTI) documents in accordance with agency, state, and IRS rules and regulations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED with specialized child support training, or related field.
Moderate experience in financial counseling, independent research, investigation, paralegal work, financial collections, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license in the State of Wisconsin.
Must be able to pass the Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint‑Based Criminal background check and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Criminal History Record background check.
Completion of IRS Safeguarding Federal Tax Information, Program Security, and Confidentiality training upon hire.
Obtain training in the Bureau of Child Support and the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families within one year of hire.
