Reporting Relations Accountable and reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Bakery Department Manager.
Positions that report to you: Bakers, Cake Designers, Fryers, Clerks, Bakery Wrappers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience.
Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
Attempts to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out of reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
Answers the telephone promptly and takes product orders.
Checks orders and sets up a timeline and production schedule.
Reviews the status and appearance of product for freshness and pulls by stale date.
Assigns tasks to bakers upon arrival.
Reviews daily production list with employees and assigns tasks.
Organizes additional production as needed and creates second production schedule.
Ensures department standards are met.
Creates closing list for evening crew and assigns duties to part‑time crew.
Reviews day‑of‑week gross potential and future sales weeks for event/production planning.
Rotates and replenishes display case product.
Trains new employees.
Handles and satisfies customer issues.
Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and maintains a clean work area.
Maintains strict adherence to department and company personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
Adheres to company policies and store guidelines.
Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Assumes management duties in absence of Department Manager: orders product and supplies as needed.
Fills in for absent employees during production days.
Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
Performs other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions.
Arithmetic calculations with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to file, post, mail materials; copy data; interview for basic information; guide people and provide direction.
Education and Experience High school or equivalent experience and at least one year up to three years of similar or related experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Instructs, assigns, reviews, and plans work of others.
Maintains standards, coordinates activities, and allocates personnel.
Physical Requirements
Able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; up to 50 pounds frequently; up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Vision requirements: less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, field of vision.
Can perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions This position has daily exposure to noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, and dangerous chemicals/solvents. Weekly exposure to dirt and occasional electrical shock. Fast‑paced environment with significant pressure.
Equipment Used to Perform Job Mixers, register, proof box, ovens, sheeter, rounder, pan washer, fryer, label machine, shrink‑wrap machine, RPM system, computer, and cake machine.
Financial Responsibility Responsible for equipment in the department and customer accounts.
Contacts Daily contact with customers, suppliers/vendors, general public, and occasional federal/state agencies for inspections.
Confidentiality Has access to confidential information including ads, gross profit percentage, wages, sales, pricing, and employee information.
