Base pay range $23.00/hr - $28.00/hr
Purpose Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for multiple openings for a Corrosion Control Specialist in our Norfolk, Virginia location who will be a key support in performing Corrosion Control on Naval and Commercial Ships.
Job Description
Perform corrosion control and preservation on Naval Vessels in tanks, compartments and hulls utilizing specialized coating applications.
Prepare all types of surfaces for preservation.
Complete work within the requirements of NAVSEA Standards.
Remove old paint and debris from all types of substrates by scraping, chipping, and sanding.
Apply coatings in accordance with specifications and good marine practice.
Brush and roll painting to pass all inspection processes.
Perform Confined Space Attendant duties to establish a communication system with entrants, identify potential hazards, watch for behavioral effects such as heat exhaustion or disorientation, and keep an accurate count and list of personnel working in the space.
Work under general supervision and perform standard tasks dependent on corrosion control and confined space duties.
Interpret drawings, technical manuals, and instructions for semi‑routine and difficult assignments.
Use basic hand tools and machinery to perform corrosion and coating applications.
Multi‑task and meet critical deadlines.
Qualifications
High school education or trade school with 2–4 years of industrial‑related experience.
5+ years of experience in corrosion control or a related field.
Strong knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and control methods.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Effective communication and leadership abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Previous experience in surface preparation or a related field.
Knowledge of painting techniques and materials.
Previous experience in painting or a related field.
Knowledge of different types of paint and their applications.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910, 1915, 1923.
Knowledge of NAVSEA STD Item 009‑32, 009‑74, SSPC‑1.
Ability to obtain a passport.
Security Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards, and naval installations.
Travel Requirements
Moderate travel required: 50%–75%.
Must obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials (e.g., REAL ID) if the position requires domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases. (REAL ID information available at https://www.dhs.gov/real-id)
Physical Requirements
Repetitive motion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking, grasping, talking, hearing, and visual acuity (depth perception).
Exposure to extreme cold/heat, noise, vibration, hazardous atmospheric conditions, and confined spaces that may cause claustrophobia.
Protective clothing or equipment, face shields or goggles when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
