Patient Service Specialist - Radiology Administration (Full Time)
Position Summary:
The Patient Service Specialist provides direct, daily operational front‑office support in a radiology setting. This role requires a self‑motivated, detail‑oriented individual who demonstrates patient centeredness, teamwork, and excellence.
The specialist is responsible for greeting patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, registering patients, verifying insurance, collecting co‑payments, balancing daily cash, and maintaining strict HIPAA confidentiality.
Essential Functions (key responsibilities):
Greet every patient courteously and professionally.
Answer and screen telephone calls, taking messages and providing information.
Schedule and maintain all patient appointments electronically, verifying patient information and assigning new MRNs.
Register patients, verify and correct demographic and insurance data, and scan insurance cards into the medical record.
Verify eligibility with major insurance carriers (e.g., NY & PA Medicare) and complete necessary forms, pre‑certifications, and referrals.
Inform, quote, and collect co‑payments, deductibles, deposits, or unpaid balances per company policy.
Perform daily cash out and balance with the Patient Cash Control Policy.
Act as liaison between patients, physicians, hospital staff, and organizational departments, keeping all parties informed of delays.
Adhere to departmental and organizational policies and attend meetings/huddles as required.
Prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment within a strong team structure.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA compliance.
Assist with and complete other projects or duties as assigned, including participation in quality initiatives.
Other Duties:
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Education, License & Certifications:
High School diploma/GED required; graduation from a Medical Office Assistant program preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year in a customer service–related field; medical office experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must be comfortable with computers and learning new applications.
Pay Range:
$17.34 – $23.96 per hour.
