Core Natural Resources is seeking a
Well Plugging Project Engineer
to assist the Well Plugging Manager with all duties necessary to plug and abandon oil and gas wells. This role supports the planning, coordination, and execution of well plugging activities in support of mining operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and environmental best practices.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

the Well Plugging Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing oil and gas well plugging and abandonment operations
Manage day-to-day activities for assigned well plugging projects, from pre-plug evaluation through completion
Manage and coordinate well searching crews, including scheduling, field oversight, and verification of identified well locations
Ensure well plugging operation activities are conducted safely, accurately, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements
Work with engineering, environmental, land, and regulatory teams to ensure project readiness and compliance
Coordinate and oversee contractors and service providers to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant field execution
Review well records, plugging procedures, and technical documentation to support project planning and execution
Monitor field operations to ensure adherence to Core’s safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental best practices
Track project schedules, costs, and performance metrics; identify and communicate risks or issues
Assist with regulatory permitting, documentation, and reporting associated with well plugging activities
Support post-plug site restoration and final regulatory closeout activities
Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost efficiency, and schedule optimization within plugging operations
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or a related field
or
equivalent relevant experience
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously
Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments and travel to field locations as required
Strong communication skills, including coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coordinating contractors, service providers, and field operations
Experience in oil and gas operations, well plugging and abandonment, or related field activities
Working knowledge of well construction, plugging procedures, and environmental compliance
Familiarity with state and federal regulatory requirements and permit applications related to oil and gas well plugging
