Trades Generalist - Fahnestock State Park Base pay range: $52,425.00/yr - $63,548.00/yr

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain drinking water treatment systems and wastewater systems within the park.

Perform skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks across building trades, with emphasis on plumbing.

Plan, lay out, and execute work in accordance with blueprints, specifications, and instructions.

Estimate and order necessary materials, supplies, and equipment for assigned projects.

Ensure compliance with safety standards and operating procedures.

Use hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring or testing instruments appropriate to the assigned trades.

Plan, coordinate, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision.

Assist in other areas of park operations as required.

Supervise and train staff as needed.

Qualifications

Four years of full‑time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, equivalent to that provided in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part‑time and volunteer experience.

Additional Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.

Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

Must have the ability to complete journey‑level work in the plumbing trade.

Must exhibit a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in their respective trade and of safety practices and code compliance.

Must be available to work a varied schedule that may include weekends and holidays as operationally necessary.

Must obtain a Water Operator Certificate for Transient non‑community water supply within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) with the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($63,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000).
