Hospital Operations Manager – Petco
Petco invites a dedicated professional to lead daily operations at a veterinary hospital, partnering with Hospital Veterinarian(s) to create a culture of high‑quality patient care, exceptional customer service, revenue growth, and cost management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead hospital paraprofessionals to drive operational excellence, efficiency, high standard patient care, and excellent client experience.
Build productive, collaborative relationships with veterinarians to foster a positive culture and cohesive team environment.
Serve as the point person for day‑to‑day practice functions—including scheduling, equipment maintenance, inventory control and ordering, invoicing, patient scheduling, team training, radiologic safety program, and elevated client concerns.
Oversee hiring, training, reviewing, counseling, and separation of paraprofessional partners in partnership with Area Operations Manager and Human Resources Business Partner.
Schedule paraprofessional partners with a minimum two‑week planning horizon and maintain punctuality and attendance policy compliance.
Create and maintain veterinarian schedules with support from Area or Regional Medical Director as needed.
Review monthly P&L reporting and partner with Area Operations Manager to exceed revenue targets set by Finance.
Escalate partner or client issues to Area Operations Manager, Area Medical Director, and/or HRBP as required.
Collaborate with the Petco store team to deliver a seamless complete care customer experience.
Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, maintain patient records, and manage accounts receivable within the practice management system.
Keep the hospital environment neat and clean, uphold OSHA standards, and perform regular environmental cleaning based on a predetermined schedule.
Uphold and enforce all Petco and Vetco Total Care policies.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Patient care always comes first.
Resolve patient, client, and partner issues promptly.
Collaborate with the Retail Team to maintain a positive, cohesive team environment.
Provide backup front desk support by answering telephones as needed.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
2‑3 years of veterinary practice experience; if not veterinary, 2+ years of strong leadership experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong decision‑making, delegation, and results‑driving skills with hospital partners.
Compassionate, professional demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
Telephone etiquette and basic computer skills.
Team player willing to learn, offer creative ideas, and accept continual change.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).
Desired Requirements
3‑5 years veterinary practice experience.
Previous P&L management experience.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
3+ years in a management role, including customer service.
Reporting and data analysis experience.
Veterinary Assistant/Technician experience in roles of increased responsibility.
Licensed Veterinary Technician or Certified Veterinary Assistant (not required).

Work Environment Primary duties are conducted in the Veterinary Hospital. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods. A significant amount of time is spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
