LP Transportation is a 110 year old, family owned business located in Chester, NY. We have a fully staffed, 13 bay maintenance facility at our main headquarters. The facility currently has 11 mechanics (and looking for more), 2 full time parts guys, a tractor supervisor/mechanic and a shop foreman/trailer supervisor for which we are looking to fill. We also have a director of maintenance in place and an administrative assistant. We currently have a fleet of approximately 200 propane trailers, 60+ LNG Trailers, 8 Chlorine/sodium hypochlorite trailers along with a group of service vehicles that we are responsible for. In addition to the company fleet, we have expanded into working on customer bobtails and trailers (outside maintenance). This area continues to grow, and we are excited about its future.

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Trailer Shop Foreman to oversee daily shop operations, lead a team of technicians, and ensure all trailer maintenance and fabrication work meets our rigorous quality and safety standards. In this role, you will coordinate workflow, mentor staff, and collaborate with management to optimize processes. Your expertise will keep projects on schedule and help propel LP Transportation to new heights of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and assign tasks to a team of mechanics, welders, and fabricators.

Inspect incoming trailers and estimate repairs or upgrades.

Develop and enforce shop safety protocols and standard operating procedures.

Coordinate parts ordering, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.

Monitor project timelines, ensuring on-time delivery and budget adherence.

Conduct quality control checks before trailers leave the shop.

Provide technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to team members.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in trailer repair, fabrication, or related heavy‑equipment maintenance.

Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.

Strong mechanical aptitude, welding certifications, and proficiency with shop tools and diagnostic equipment.

Excellent organizational skills with a focus on safety, compliance, and efficiency.

Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, vendors, and customers.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. CDL A with Tank and hazmat preferred but not required.

Preferred Skills

Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, and suspension components.

Familiarity with welding processes (MIG/TIG/Stick) and metal fabrication techniques.

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Forklift or heavy‑lifting equipment certification.

Basic computer skills for work order management and inventory tracking.
