Overview The Patient Access Senior Representative demonstrates strong customer service orientation while handling all business functions in an assigned area to include reception, scheduling and registering patients for appointments and/or procedures.
Responsibilities
Greet patients, secure the appropriate patient information, and ensure registration data is correct and accurate.
Validate insurance eligibility, enter information into appropriate systems, and collect co‑pay (if applicable).
Assist with financial counseling and financial clearance as necessary.
Perform all aspects of the Patient Access Rep position as needed.
Cross‑cover all Patient Access functions within the department and/or clinic.
Function in a self‑directed manner to accomplish routine activities.
Orient and train new hires to the service area.
Notify supervisor immediately of any issues involving violation of VCUHS policies or procedures.
Work off‑shifts, weekends, and holidays as required for the assigned area.
Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year of previous patient scheduling/registration work experience in a healthcare setting.
Strong customer service skills and patient/customer‑centered focus in a positive manner in all situations.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or closely related field from an accredited program (preferred).
Additional Requirements
Provide training, mentorship, and assistance in onboarding of new members on the team (if supervisory responsibilities apply).
May be considered part of essential staffing, depending on the assigned area.
Physical Requirements: Lifting less than 20 lbs. Prolonged sitting, walking (distance). Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking. Fast pace environment, able to handle multiple priorities, able to adapt to frequent change.
