Summary These WG-2805-10 Seasonal Electrician positions are located at the parks listed below. They are temporary, seasonal appointments not to exceed 1,039 hours and may be filled for a six‑month seasonal period, though dates may vary due to weather, project needs, or funding. Zion National Park – Anticipated Entry on Duty Date: 05/03/2026. Glacier National Park – Anticipated Entry on Duty Date: 04/05/2026. Duties Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems: perform work on new and existing lines, circuits, panels, switchgear, and associated equipment (up to 600 volts), ensuring compliance with NEC, CFR, and NFPA codes. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues: independently trace defects, test circuits, and complete repairs or installations, often in remote locations, with minimal supervision. Plan and lay out electrical projects: use building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to determine routing, placement, load balancing, and safe operation of electrical systems. Fabricate and install conduits and wiring: accurately cut, thread, and install various types of conduit (RMC, EMT, PVC, etc.), wiring, fittings, and connections to support system integrity. Complete and document work orders: ensure all assigned tasks are carried out, tested, and recorded accurately in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Physical Effort The position requires working from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and other cramped and hard‑to‑reach places. Duties may involve sitting, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and working in uncomfortable positions. Exposure to electrical shock, spark and arc hazard, and other health hazards is possible. In remote locations, walking, hiking, or driving over rough and uneven terrain may be required. Lifting and/or carrying items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally exceeding 50 pounds, is expected. Working Conditions Work is both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work may involve extreme weather conditions such as wind, rain, snow, and ice, with temperatures ranging from below 0 to over 100 degrees. Depending on the park unit assigned, work may take place at elevations from sea level up to 10,000 feet. The incumbent may be exposed to dust, fogs, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, and vapors, as well as noise, vibration, cuts, and abrasions from the use of electrical tools and equipment. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials or wildlife is possible. The incumbent is expected to comply with all safety and occupational health requirements and wear protective clothing, gloves, face shields, and, in some cases, a respirator. Requirements – Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Direct deposit: Selectee must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Housing: Depending on location, government housing may be available. Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards, with a uniform allowance provided. Work schedule: You may be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and/or shift work. Training and vehicle operation: You may need to complete training and operate a four‑wheel drive vehicle. Driver’s license: A valid driver’s license is required. You must submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record, as well as all certified driving records from all states that disclose valid driver’s licenses (current or past), at your own expense. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally a greater weight. A valid state‑issued Journeyman Electrician License is required to safely perform the duties of this position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must (1) meet the selective factor AND (2) have sufficient knowledge and ability in the job‑related factors listed below. Selective factor: Possess a valid state‑issued Journeyman Electrician License, required to safely perform the duties of this position. Submit a copy of your state‑issued Journeyman Electrician License at the time of application, before the closing date of this announcement on 01/05/2026. Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT): Examples of qualifying experience include: (1) Installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical equipment; (2) applying the National Electric Code (NEC) to projects to select the correct materials and methods for an installation or repair; (3) bending and/or installing Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT, rigid, flex and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) conduits for installation of electrical systems; (4) utilizing mathematical formulas basic to the electrician trade to determine voltage and resistance. Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability to Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Troubleshooting (electrical) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Non‑competitive rehire eligibility allows re‑appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS). If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment of less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non‑competitive rehire eligibility. The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours, or by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.
