Description The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a Program Manager II. The Program Manager II will oversee the administrative management of the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center's ENRICH program and support its Principal Investigators. Responsibilities include the management of general operations, serving as the primary communication liaison between the PI’s, the O'Neal Cancer Center, and other campus departments, recruiting trainees, handling general financial accounting and human resources tasks, short‑ and long‑term planning, grant and report writing, and providing input to achieve objectives in the development of program plans, objectives, and evaluation/assessment. The position requires independent judgment to determine the best approach to accomplish objectives established in the program plan. The position reports to and works with the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) program to design and implement initiatives consistent with CRTEC's mission.
The O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of 51 NCI‑designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States and is the only one in Alabama and the Deep South region. The center provides leading‑edge treatments and clinical trials that may not be available at local community hospitals or smaller cancer centers. General Responsibilities
Administratively manage a large or complex university program or multiple programs.
Develop program plans and objectives, ensuring achievement within defined parameters.
Supervise small staff teams and conduct long‑range planning.
Oversee budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training, and assistance.
Handle grant and report writing; manage regulatory responsibilities, contract submissions, and research funding identification.
Plan events and oversee construction projects as needed.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee all operations related to the UAB ENRICH Program, including website maintenance, trainee recruitment and onboarding, program planning, evaluations, daily coordination, IRB compliance, student tracking, meeting coordination, and planning the ENRICH Symposium.
Coordinate and execute Internal Advisory Board (IAB) and External Advisory Board (EAB) meetings.
Serve as primary communication link between the PI’s, O'Neal Cancer Center, Department of Pathology, and other campus and community partners.
Promote the ENRICH Program through printed materials, conference outlets, calendars, brochures, newsletters, and advertising.
Collaborate with UAB marketing and communications to coordinate advertising and public coverage of ENRICH events and services.
Lead recruiting efforts at local, regional, and national levels to promote and represent the ENRICH Program to other UAB departments and schools.
Administer the financial and HR aspects of ENRICH, manage operating budgets involving external and institutional funding sources.
Work with HR to compensate trainees, collaborators, and advisory board members; maintain trainee database and tracking.
Establish and maintain communication channels, including newsletters, websites, social media, Slack, Teams, etc.
Collaborate with the ENRICH Evaluation Team to communicate with alumni, process participant incentives, and maintain payment records.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Five (5) years of related experience (education requirement cannot be substituted by experience).
Preferences
Independent judgment to accomplish program objectives.
Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
Experience in grant management and/or educational/training roles.
Experience working in an academic medical center or higher education institution.
Annual Salary Range $51,270 – $83,300
