Role Overview: The Highway Technician 3 position is for the traffic markings department in LaPorte Districtwide. Responsibilities include general highway maintenance, striping state roads, working with thermal plastic, and some bucket work. On-the-job training is provided. Some overnight work may be required, along with mandatory overtime for emergency operations, including winter. This position typically starts at an hourly rate of $20.00. Salary may be adjusted based on education and experience. CDL Positions: Candidates with a current CDL and endorsements required by the district will earn an additional $1 per hour. Candidates without a CDL will have 90 days to obtain their CDL and endorsements and will then earn an additional $1 per hour. CDL training is provided onsite by certified INDOT staff. Location: This position is located in INDOT’s LaPorte District, Traffic Department. A Day in the Life:

The essential duties include: Complying with all INDOT safety policies and procedures. Operating highway maintenance and traffic equipment. Loading and moving supplies and materials. Performing winter operations, including snow and ice removal. Maintaining, repairing, and installing traffic signs, route markers, and pavement markings. Responding to emergencies such as traffic control, lane closures, and barricade placement. Conducting routine inspections and equipment maintenance. Documenting job activities in the Work Management System (WMS). Assisting the public with inquiries and delays. Performing basic construction inspections as needed. Additional duties may include: Traffic Inventory Specialist: Maintaining and installing traffic signs and pavement markings. Receiving, inspecting, and recording materials and supplies. Maintaining inventory records and operating computerized inventory systems. Attending work at assigned sites is essential. The description may change as needed, and other duties may be assigned. What You'll Need for Success:

Required qualifications include: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Possession or ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days. Passing a drug test. Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical activities. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Clear communication skills. Ability to operate specialized traffic equipment. Additional requirements may include: Knowledge of electronic inventory systems. Understanding bookkeeping procedures. Ability to perform essential functions with accommodations if needed.
