We are seeking highly motivated, detail‑oriented individuals to join our team at the NYS DOT Region 6 Traffic Management Center. As a TMC Operator, you will play a critical role in keeping New York roadways safe and efficient by monitoring traffic conditions, coordinating incident response, and delivering timely information to the public. Responsibilities
Traffic Operations situational awareness, data entry, and monitoring a designated region, district, and roadway for normal and emergency conditions to identify incidents, coordinate response, and update status for DOT and consultant management in a 24/7/365 environment using various software, CCTV, and ITS. Traffic Monitoring and Management: Monitor traffic flow, identify incidents, coordinate with other organizations such as 911 Centers and other emergency services, operate CCTV cameras, VMS (Variable Message Sign), and other related systems, data entry for use in the Traveler Information System, and manage roadwork. Incident Management: Detect and verify incidents, initiate and coordinate response, activate and verify public information, disseminate incident information, coordinate DOT services after identification of an incident as required, and document related or required data as needed. Qualifications
Proficiency with Windows‑based systems and comfort working on a multi‑monitor workstation. Ability to type quickly and accurately in a fast‑paced environment. Strong working knowledge of Chemung, Steuben, Yates, Schuyler, and Allegany County‑area roadways and geography. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to prioritize and respond to real‑time events with urgency and accuracy. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Flexibility to work holidays and weekends as part of a 24/7/365 operation. Ability to pass a comprehensive background check. Benefits
