Job Overview Location:

Successful candidate will be located in one of our service areas in Georgia or Florida.

Construction Maintenance Technician responsible for splicing, maintaining, and repairing all underground cables used to deliver Telephone, CATV, and high‑speed Data services.

Candidate must be available for on‑call duty to investigate outages, coordinate with contractors for necessary repairs, and collect data for outage investigations.

Responsibilities

Splice, maintain, and repair copper, coaxial, and fiber cables from Central Office or Head End to the demarcation box located at the customer premises.

Assist in the testing of fiber, coaxial, and copper cables; use fault‑locating equipment to isolate the source of trouble or complaint, including forward and reverse testing of HFC plant.

Digs with a shovel to expose severed or damaged cable; may sketch the damaged cable to send to Engineering for replacement or cable upgrade.

Read and interpret OTDR and fiber‑optic power meters and coaxial (dB) power meters.

Read and interpret staking sheets and cable schematics to splice newly installed cable in pedestals and to terminate cable in cross connects; correctly mark cable pairs, use assigned cable counts and color code, run jumpers; may include bonding and grounding if needed.

Run pairs for service orders for Engineering and dispatch.

Assist in small cut‑overs for Engineering.

Verify information on repair orders and service orders; advise appropriate employees of any needed corrections or changes.

Install protector and demarcation device at customer premises, sometimes working in areas with limited space, using hand tools such as drills, screwdrivers, and punch tool.

Inspect and maintain vehicle in a clean, orderly, well‑stocked fashion daily; complete necessary paperwork for maintenance or repairs to vehicle.

Communicate with other departments and companies to repair inoperative or substandard cable transmissions.

Refer employee and customer complaints and problems to immediate supervisor or another member of the management team.

Provide training and assistance for new employees; participate in cross‑training.

Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the department and the Company.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Working knowledge of fiber‑optic technology.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Willingness and ability to learn new concepts and effectively train others as needed.

Valid driver’s license with a clean and safe driving record.

Desired Qualifications

Basic electricity (AC/DC) theory.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.

Basic understanding of service order flow and process.

Understanding of REA and Company construction standards and specifications.
