GENERAL FUNCTION The Before and After School Care Site Assistant is responsible for general supervision and management of assigned school sites while assisting in the development of children’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development.
SITE LOCATION PLACEMENT The Site Assistant will serve the Fraser, Eastpointe, Warren (Macomb County), and Royal Oak Schools. Site locations are assigned by Management based on staff availability and staffing levels in the area.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent is required (minimum of 18 years of age).
Some experience supervising children is preferred, but not required.
TRAINING / CERTIFICATIONS / PREREQUISITES
State licensing agency requirement met.
Pass DHS clearance with documentation prior to starting work.
Pass TB skin test within 30 days of hire.
CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications within 60 days of hire.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Ability to plan, lead, and participate in all physical activities.
Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children.
Capability to be outside for up to 30 minutes a day, year‑round.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend to the needs of participating children at all times, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
Plan and lead daily/monthly curriculum‑based lesson plans and activities approved by the Site Supervisor.
Set up and clean up physical learning environments, preparing necessary materials and supplies; ensure all equipment meets maintenance and storage standards.
Build and maintain relationships with assigned school and YMCA staff and program participants through staff meetings, open houses, and PTA meetings.
Maintain appropriate staff‑to‑child ratios and assume shared responsibility for housekeeping tasks.
Serve prepared healthy snacks to children and maintain required paperwork.
Understand all emergency site procedures and record drills.
Perform other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor.
