The System Operator is responsible for operating WETT transmission and interconnection facilities continuously 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The operator must ensure compliance with all Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and Texas Reliability Entity (TRE) standards and practices, maintaining best utility practice. The position also protects against the exposure of penalties and fines associated with non‑compliance. The role reports to the System Operations Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Operate transmission and interconnection facilities to ensure Bulk Electric System reliability while maintaining safety for maintenance and production personnel, generating, transmission, and distribution equipment.

Monitor and operate transmission assets within federally mandated NERC reliability standards (NERC System Operator Certified).

Manage and communicate outages of transmission assets while minimizing disruption of generation or interchange transactions and maintaining regulatory and safety compliance.

Monitor, operate, and maintain the interconnected power system within Security Operating Limits (SOL), ensuring safety for personnel and protection of all assets.

Support system operations staff with development of switching orders.

Monitor and operate WETT transmission facilities.

Accountable for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the Bulk Electric System.

Make continual decisions to operate the transmission system consistent with NERC Reliability Standards.

Manage system problems, including shedding firm load.

Direct transmission and interconnection assets while maintaining regulatory and safety compliance.

Maintain NERC System Operator certification (Transmission Operator minimum).

Operate SCADA/EMS control systems to meet contractual and ERCOT/TRE/PUCT obligations.

Perform all switching for operations and safety of maintenance personnel.

Restore the power system after disturbances and conduct protective device operations promptly.

Implement and adhere to Safety Standards during high‑voltage switching and maintenance operations.

Direct and/or perform high‑voltage switching during normal and disturbance conditions.

Produce written clearance order procedures for safe elimination of high‑voltage hazards while protecting equipment.

Provide direction to maintenance and operating personnel during abnormal system conditions or alarms.

Maintain power systems within normal operating parameters to prevent disturbances.

Accumulating and analyzing operating data for regional and national reports.

Cooperate with interconnected utilities and ERCOT to maintain grid stability and integrity.

Meet all Transmission Operator responsibilities per NERC Standards, registrations, and ERCOT requirements.

Coordinate outages of transmission and interconnection assets with ERCOT and surrounding utilities for maintenance and construction while maintaining safe operation.

Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education

Must have and maintain a NERC Transmission Operator or higher certification.

Minimum of five (5) years in power system operations or related field experience, or equivalent education and training.

Knowledge of NERC and federal regulatory compliance requirements, and other federal, state, and local requirements.

Experience with current ERCOT and TRE standards, operating policies, procedures, and guidelines (preferred).

Deep knowledge of interconnected transmission system operations, generation characteristics, and electric utility power system controls and practices.

Excellent computer, oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to remain calm in emergency situations.

Ability to perform independently under all operating conditions.

Knowledge of the impact of weather‑related events and operation of other facilities on company assets.

Results‑driven, accountable for actions.

Ability to accept responsibility, make decisions, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks concurrently.

Strong problem‑solving skills, independent thinking, and adaptability to changing conditions.

Willingness to work 12‑hour rotating shifts and be available for call‑outs as needed.

Salary: $44,720.00 – $54,080.00
