YOUR FUTURE TEAM As part of TCEQ Compliance and Enforcement, you would help ensure that those we regulate comply with the state’s environmental laws. This position is a member of the Water Section within the Enforcement Division.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Research noncompliance allegations and prepare specific materials including penalty calculations, letters, memos, orders, and technical requirements to support highly complex enforcement actions.
Monitor ordering provisions and compliance schedules for formal enforcement actions until compliance is achieved or cases are closed.
Conduct highly complex reviews of technical reports, documents, and databases to determine compliance with applicable statutes, rules, and orders.
Prepare quality enforcement documents that are accurate and complete in response to order compliance monitoring activities.
Interact with respondents to encourage compliance; settle enforcement actions; initiate use of Supplemental Environmental Projects; communicate case status and provide extremely complex technical assistance regarding agency rules, regulations, and policies; provide testimony at commissioners’ agendas, administrative hearings, or civil trials.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience interpreting or determining compliance with environmental rules, statutes, and/or policies.
Experience preparing technical or regulatory documents.
Experience coordinating, managing, or overseeing multiple projects, cases, or accounts.
Experience in mentoring.
Experience interacting with a regulated community or customer base.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, criminal justice, or related field, plus six years of full-time experience in environmental activities. One year of full-time experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the above or related fields plus five years of required experience.
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, environmental science, criminal justice, or related fields plus four years of required experience.
Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as an Enforcement Coordinator IV.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. The ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.
