Overview
The Pathology Lab Supervisor provides hands‑on leadership and actively participates in all aspects of daily operations of our dermatopathology lab, including specimen grossing, fixation, tissue cutting, staining, supply management, and equipment maintenance. This role ensures that lab workflows meet the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and turnaround time. The Supervisor oversees and supports the technical staff, ensures proper training, and serves as a key point of contact for resolving specimen and personnel‑related issues. In collaboration with lab managers and senior leadership, this individual also drives process improvements to enhance overall lab efficiency and performance.
Schedule: 40 hours, Mon - Fri, 2pm-10:30pm (2nd shift)

Responsibilities Leadership:
Provide daily supervision, guidance, and communication to Histotechnicians and Lab Assistants to optimize lab production quality, productivity, turnaround time, and teamwork in alignment with organizational goals.
Troubleshoot and address / resolve or elevate specimen, lab process, equipment, or personnel issues.
Ensure sufficient inventory of supplies is maintained to support uninterrupted lab operations.
Ensure organization and cleanliness of production areas and materials.
Leads regular team meetings, ensuring efficient use of time and clear outcomes.
Develop and update staff schedules; manage PTO requests to maintain adequate coverage.
Review and approve timesheets for biweekly payroll processing.
Report regularly to manager / senior leaders on team performance, attendance, and staffing needs.
Facilitate recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members, ensuring compliance with CLIA requirements for documented competency‑based training.
Ensure team compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA regulations, escalating issues as appropriate.
Lead 90‑day and annual performance reviews to enhance employee performance, accelerate lab productivity, and foster continuous team development through targeted feedback and coaching.
Collaborate with lab managers and senior leadership to identify and implement process improvements that enhance lab efficiency and performance.
Participate in monthly and quarterly leadership meetings.
Perform other related leadership duties as assigned.
Pathology Lab:
Accession and gross tissue specimens, including measuring, inking, cutting, and data entry.
Process and embed tissues daily using standard lab procedures.
Section tissues using a microtome and mount them on slides for staining.
Perform routine H&E staining and special stains or immunohistochemistry as requested.
Maintain and calibrate lab equipment; change reagents and monitor temperatures as required.
Perform other related pathology lab duties as assigned.
Qualifications EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Associate’s Degree in a science related field is required; Bachelor’s Degree in a science related field is preferred.
Successful completion of a histology training course required; ASCP certification is preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of related lab experience required; proven leadership experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated leadership experience: Serving as an example to others with regard to professional behavior, handling multiple tasks, maintaining a positive attitude, and in response to organizational change.
Excellent leadership, organizational, computer, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, peers, and senior leaders.
Ability to multi‑task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of lab operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Ability to learn and navigate electronic medical record and lab information systems.
Basic Microsoft Office skills (e.g., WORD, Excel)
Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and patient protected health information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to communicate in an active multi‑office environment.
Ability to efficiently operate all job related office equipment (lab equipment, computer, telephone, copier)
Ability to communicate via telephone.
Ability to sit and / or stand for large portions of a workday.
