Overview
The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire a
Mechanic Technician II
for the Marine Service Shop in the Public Works Fleet Management Division.
Responsibilities The chosen candidate will perform the following repairs and/or maintenance of boats and similar vessels:
Coordinate repairs and scheduled maintenance with marine vendors and internal City marine vessel users
Perform repairs such as major tune-ups, replacing water pumps, hydraulic lines and hoses, and hydraulic trailer brakes
Perform tasks listed on Automotive Services Preventive Maintenance Checklist, such as oil changes, lubrication, safety checks, battery checks and other marine related maintenance
Installation and maintenance of electronic components and systems
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair marine engines (inboard/outboard); repair outdrive and lower units and power trim units
Engine rigging of out-board engines
Test engines, transmissions, propellers, and navigational and related systems to diagnose malfunctions
Minimum Requirements Completion of eighth (8) grade plus three (3) years of experience in mechanical repair work utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities and associated with such positions as Line Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic or Construction Mechanic; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.
Preferences
Prior Professional Marine Mechanic experience at a marine repair facility (Boats, In-Board/Out-Board Motors, Watercraft, Jet Propelled). Mercury Verado and Four-Stroke Certs., and Classic Certifications; Cummins Marine
Experience operating vessels up to 50 feet in length
Proven experience communicating with customers and vendors
Experience using computerized work order software programs
Mercury Marine Certification
Class A CDL
Virginia State Inspector’s License
