Trial Preparation Assistant III - Grand Jury Unit
The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with ensuring public safety while pursuing equal justice for its 1.4 million residents. The BXDA focuses on assisting crime victims and ensuring fairness to defendants, seeking a balance between appropriate punishment and dissemination of justice.
In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Trial Preparation Assistant Level III for the Grand Jury Unit.
Job Responsibilities
Supervise and provide oversight to all TPA and Administrative Assistants, ensuring efficiency and high performance.
Provide coverage and perform critical functions during staff absences.
Manage case postings, maintain the activity log, and handle emails related to outstanding cases.
Process digital submissions, follow up on returned indictments and outstanding paperwork, and review submissions for accuracy and completeness.
Provide administrative support and assist Indictment staff when needed.
Manage the Annex (“Staples”) facility, ensuring smooth daily operations and serving as the primary point of contact for any logistical issues.
Serve as the designated representative to meet with the grand jury foreperson for document signings when necessary; this requires the ability to drive.
All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
BA degree preferred, or a high school diploma/GED with prior work experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization.
Three years of trial preparation or paralegal experience.
Minimum Qualifications
BA degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; OR
High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; OR
Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred Skills
Ability to work a flexible schedule in a fast‑paced environment.
Familiarity with general court services and functionalities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work discreetly.
Ability to manage and supervise others and promote a positive, professional work environment.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment and initiative.
Excellent customer service skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
