Overview Reports to the Admissions Manager. Utilizes clinical expertise to perform assessments of patients potentially requiring mental health services.

Responsibilities
Perform initial assessment of patients and coordinate care throughout continuum.
Perform psychiatric assessments.
Obtain initial authorization if applicable.
Consult with physicians and other health care providers to assure effective implementation of patients' plans of care.
Communicate treatment recommendations made by the doctor, which may include coordination of community services, follow-up care, and education.
Ensure completeness and accuracy of the medical record.
Report patient outcome information to the manager.
Assist with Social Work services on the inpatient units as needed.
Participate in continuous quality improvement by compiling and analyzing data to generate reports representing utilization trends.
Register patients to obtain demographic, physician and insurance information in accordance with established policies.
Interview patients/obtain collateral via telephone for pre‑admission or admission upon presentation in intake area or patient room.
Obtain identification, demographic, physician and insurance info, and accurately enter it into the Hospital financial system.
Update system after validation of new patient financial information.
Pre‑certify with patient's insurance carrier to ensure maximum coverage.
Request copies of insurance cards and IDs to confirm benefits and identification.
Provide Medicare letter, complete MSP and ABN for Medicare patients.
Refer patient to Patient Account Liaison if unable to secure payment arrangements; assist PAL in obtaining additional information.
Obtain all required signatures for consent to treat and assignment of insurance benefits.
Verify insurance coverage by calling insurance company or using online eligibility systems.
Obtain pre‑certification info from insurer's pre‑certification unit.
Notify appropriate area of patient's arrival and ensure escort to appropriate location.
Notify assigned unit of arrival; prepare patient chart, ID band, labels.
Arrange escort to assist patient to assigned unit (wheelchair or walking).
Complete other job‑related assignments and projects as directed.
Organizational Responsibilities
Attend and participate in department meetings; account for all shared information.
Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, department‑specific education within established timeframes.
Complete annual employee health requirements.
Maintain license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
Maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required.
Use appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, ergonomic techniques.
Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
Comply with department and organizational policies.
Available to work overtime and additional shifts as required.

Education and Experience
Master's degree in social work or counseling field.
Minimum two years of experience conducting psychiatric assessments is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Thorough knowledge of procedures and techniques required to treat targeted patient population.
Clear, effective communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, listening).
Ability to independently prioritize, organize work activities and perform under pressure.
Ability to identify and utilize appropriate resources.
Computer literacy and ability to use various programs.
Working Conditions
