Job Summary

Assists with planning, coordination, and implementation of departmental safety requirements for employees. Provides logistical support for emergency operation plans and assists with onsite compliance safety inspections. Supports the management of health and safety processes to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and ensure compliance with County, local, state and federal regulations in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Contributes to the development and delivery of training programs and presentations, disseminates safety information to staff through various media platforms. Maintains records and certifications for departmental employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher is required.

Four (4) years’ work experience in occupational safety and health, environmental health, safety and training, or directly related experience.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.

Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Knowledge of occupational safety and health for public works, construction, and/or maintenance.

Skill in the implementation of new safety trainings and regulations with the ability to assist with seasonal trainings throughout all facilities.

Ability to convey information and explain or discuss office policy and procedures in person or virtually.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Ability to manage and maintain large scale records, inventory, and certifications.

Ability to adapt to the utilization of safety and learning management platforms.

Ability to stay up to date with current safety regulations and ensure compliance by others with the regulations.

Ability to work rotating shifts, providing 24/7 coverage as needed including holidays.

Ability to travel throughout various locations within Cook County.

Physical Requirements: Light work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job/occupation is rated Light Work when it requires: walking or standing to a significant degree; sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or working at a production rate pace while constantly pushing or pulling materials even though the weight of the materials is negligible.

Salary Range $74,220 - $81,931

This position requires successful completion of post‑offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and medical examination.
