Responsibilities

Assist residents, including those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, in adjusting to life at our luxury assisted living community.

Encourage residents to pursue existing interests and develop new and stimulating activities.

Plan fun and safe trips to destinations such as art galleries, theaters, music venues, racetracks, sports events, and religious and cultural programs.

Prepare, print and distribute monthly calendars, newsletters, and memos to residents.

Perform planned activities in the absence of the Director of Recreation.

Maintain knowledge of resident backgrounds, hobbies, special interests, and spoken languages to encourage engagement.

Deliver compassionate, hands‑on support that enhances the quality of life for all residents.

Qualifications

One year’s prior experience working with a senior population; experience with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia is a plus.

At least six months of recreation activity experience (art therapy, music therapy) or event leadership experience, preferably in assisted living, long‑term care or a similar setting.

Outgoing, warm, and genuinely caring personality.

Ability to create programs that get residents involved and excited.

Dependable and capable of supervising activities, special events, and safe excursions for residents.

Creative talents in one or more areas such as art, music, readings, or dance.

Consistently well‑groomed and appropriately attired.

Excellent listening and communication skills with a positive spirit and professional attitude.

Proven ability to lead classes and instructional sessions and speak confidently in front of groups.

High school diploma or equivalent at minimum.

Seniority level: Entry level. Employment type: Part‑time. Location: Hauppauge, NY. Salary: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00.
